For anyone with a history of bladder tenderness due to IC, you've probably already figured out why cranberry is well known for its ability to irritate our bladders. It's very acidic and irritating. Thus, we certainly do NOT advocate the use of cranberry products for IC patients. However, cranberry does have its uses, particularly in the potential prevention of e-coli based bladder infections. If your bladder isn't uber sensitive to cranberry, this might be a product worth considering. Please note that cranberry is not a treatment for an active infection which usually requires treatment with a prescribed antibiotic.
If you believe that you have an active bladder infection, please contact your physician and ask for a urine culture immediately. Infections left untreated can become worse and lead to the development of more serious kidney infections. - Jill Osborne
