From creating new family traditions to knowing when to say "no", here are excellent survival tips to make your holidays less stressful from ICN Founder Jill Osborne.
(2) IC in Older Adults
- In our continuing series of articles on the needs of special groups of patients, our feature story covers the challenges that older patients (i.e. those over 50+) face when struggling with interstitial cystitis. From obtaining a correct diagnosis to selecting appropriate treatments, seniors with IC face very unique obstacles. ICN Write Stacey Shannon has written her third article in this series (children and men were in past isues) that will help each one of us provide support and encouragement to our seniors with IC/PBS.
(3) Vitamins, Supplements and the IC Diet
Are vitamins safe to take with IC? How about supplements?? Registered dietitian Julie Beyer, author of Confident Choices: Customizing the IC Diet, appeared in the ICN "Meet the IC Expert" Guest Lecture series discussing vitamin use. She also provided several menu suggestions and answered many questions on the IC Diet from the audience.
(4) The Latest IC Research
We offer a summary of the most interesting research studies released this fall, including a possible new breakthrough in how the bladder wall becomes injured (the Tamm-Horsfall Protein), the concept of overactive bladder and IC as a hypersensitization disorder, a high rate of pelvic surgeries and hysterectomies in IC and more!
(5) Bio-Identical Hormones -IC Lifestyles by Gaye Sandler -
Gaye Sandler, author of Patient to Patient: Managing IC & Related Conditions returns with her IC Lifestyles column, an interview with a hormone specialist who shares his thoughts on the use of bioidentical (plant based) hormones to fight menopause related symptoms. If you're approaching menopause or struggling with hormone replacement, this is the article for you..
(6) Fresh Tastes by Bev Laumann -

Managing Dry Mouth and Dry Eyes
If you're like many IC patients, you're probably struggling with a very dry mouth and/or dry eyes, the result of some of the medications often prescribed for interstitial cystitis.
