One of the great frustrations of having interstitial cystitis, prostatitis, vulvodynia, prostatodynia, pudendal nerve entrapment and/or pelvic floor disorders is that sitting can be excruciatingly uncomfortable. And, if you're like most of us, you've tried the dreaded doughnut cushions with devastating results.
I've personally tested at least a dozen cushions, from the cheapest on the market to the most expensive gel cushions and, time and time again, our simple cushion has the best design and provides the most comfort. They work great in cars, planes, at work, home and even the bleachers at football games. I wouldn't have been able to start the ICN if I hadn't had these cushions to sit on over the years! - Jill, ICN Founder

CUSHION FITTING
We are often asked by patients which cushion will work best for them. Unfortunately, this is a difficult question to answer because IC patients come in all shapes, sizes and weights. The first criteria is your weight. The lighter you are, the softer the cushion you may need. Heavier weights require firmer cushions. Another factor is your sensitivity in the perineal and crotch area. Patients struggling with vulvodynia or prostatodynia may only tolerate a little pressure on their perineum. (One way to release the tension across the top of the cushion is to just remove the cover and replace it with a pillowcase.). Thus, picking out a cushion often involves some trial and error. It's quite normal for a patient to order two related cushions (i.e. usually a C and D) and then return the one that doesn't work for them.
CUSHION FACTS
We offer FOUR cushions of varying firmness. The cushions are 16 inches wide by 14 inches deep. Inside, you'll find firm, supportive side sections with a flexible, soft, grooved foam center covered with the inner layer of plastic. The cushions are covered with a durable dark blue poly-cotton that some patients may find tight across the top.
CUSHION LIFESPAN
Cushion foam always flattens and/or decompresses over time with use and the weight that is placed on the cushion. Why not use more durable foam? It is often much firmer and harder for patients to tolerate, as well as being significantly more expensive. Thus, we must use this softer foam. In general, our cushions last roughly six months with normal, moderate use before the cushion flattens. Heavy use will, undoubtedly, result a quicker deterioration and/or separation of the foam segments. It's quite normal to purchase two cushions over a one year period.

CUSHION USE
To use the cushion, place it on a chair seat with the “channel” running from front to back, directly underneath the crotch. Each cheek should be sitting on foam but the crotch should have little, if any, pressure on it. Please keep the OUTER plastic cover on the cushion while you are evaluating the cushion. You may need to use a pin to make a few discrete pinholes if the plastic bag is holding the air in and the cushion is difficult to evaluate.
RETURNS:
The OUTER plastic cover must remain intact and unbroken if the cushion is to be returned. You may NOT return cushions inwhich plastic has been retaped shut. IF YOU OPEN THE PLASTIC, YOU LOSE YOUR RETURN RIGHTS!
WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY
(Feb 2009) "I am a 40-something chronic prostatitis sufferer, and this chair pad is great. I purchased one a couple of months ago, and am buying another to keep at work. Best thing is, they fold up and fit into a soft-sided briefcase, and can pass as a lumbar support and not an embarrassing donut. I took mine on a long flight recently and was finally comfortable. Thanks for making these available at a reasonable price."
